چکیده

1. ABSTRACT We developed an approach to convert“adult stories” to“children stories.” Specifically, we obtained 30 stories, 15 of which were of each story type. Our Lexical Analyzer (LA) made use of OpenNLP’s part-of-speech tagging utility. With this, we developed a means to do clausal separation, allowing our story to be more direct and explicit by generating more simple sentences. We looked at a metric we called AdultLikelihood in order to determine which words are the most technical and adult-like. Our aim was to target these words and replace them with simpler, child-like words. Our system implemented WordNet’s Synsets in order to find these candidates, and the actual replacement words will be picked based on their Adult-Likelihood value. We additionally included OpenTextSummarizer into our project, to allow the user to optionally trim out sentences that have rarely occurring words. Regardless of that added feature, we then evaluate our performance by measuring “Sentence-Complexity” in various ways. Lastly, we developed a neural network that classifies stories as being of type adult or children, based on key features that we identified.

Can the computer replace the adult for storybook reading? A meta-analysis on the effects of multimedia stories as compared to sharing print stories with an adult

The present meta-analysis challenges the notion that young children necessarily need adult scaffolding in order to understand a narrative story and learn words as long as they encounter optimally designed multimedia stories. Including 29 studies and 1272 children, multimedia stories were found more beneficial than encounters with traditional story materials that did not include the help of an a...

Generating Believable Stories in Large Domains

Planning-based techniques are a very powerful tool for automated story generation. However, as the number of possible actions increases, traditional planning techniques suffer from a combinatorial explosion due to large branching factors. In this work, we apply Monte Carlo Tree Search (MCTS) techniques to generate stories in domains with large numbers of possible actions (100+). Our approach em...

US2StarTool: Generating i* Models From User Stories

In agile methods, the requirements are represented by user stories. On the other hand, the i* model presents dependencies among organizational actors, and the understanding of the context in which a requirement is inserted. This paper presents an ...
